Cards can be moved from one tableau pile to another in descending order, alternating colors (e.g., a black 10 can be placed on a red Jack). The player can then begin to move cards around the tableau and foundation piles according to certain rules. The top card of each tableau pile is turned face up, and the remaining cards are placed face down in the stock pile. To start the game, a player deals out seven tableau piles of cards, with the first pile containing one card, the second pile containing two cards, and so on, with the seventh pile containing seven cards. The goal of the game is to build up four foundation piles (one for each suit) in ascending order from Ace to King, using the tableau and stock piles. Solitaire is a popular single-player card game.
